Hobby is an intrinsic nature of all human beings, consider this; everyone wants to be unique and hobbies make us stand out. So most people take something that they love, a subject, an object, an activity and toil at it till they become very good at it. Hobbies differ from one person to the other but some hobbies are timeless, take for example Horology. The study of timekeeping and the hobby of collecting watches are intermeshed together.

Since the beginning, mankind has been engrossed with timekeeping and it still continues to be an obsession for many watch aficionados out there. To some people a watch might just be simple device that keeps time, some of you might even prefer your mobile phones to a wrist watch. But to true watch enthusiast nothing quite compares to the mechanical device that runs on gears and levers and keeps time at well.

There is something very alluring about mechanical automatic watches; think of something that does not need a battery to run. The Mechanical automatic watches store the kinetic energy of your wrist motion and store it as potential energy and keeps perfect time. Some of the mechanical watches can run for generations. Like the human heart, each mechanical watch is a symphony of perfection in itself. Some of the parts in these mechanical watches are smaller and thinner than piece of hair.

Watch making requires craftsmanship of the highest quality and a lot of effort goes into making each watch. Some people might say that a normal quartz watch keeps better time than the best mechanical watches out there and they cost less. Well! That’s true but when it comes to watch collection, it is how you do it. It is more like the difference between electric cars vs. the European Ferrari; both get you from point A to B but they are diametrically opposite in their approaches.
